Overview

Job Summary:

 

The Director of Sales, Business Unit is responsible for national sales, budgeting, and expenses management within Werfen's North American Commercial Operations for their assigned Business Unit. In this high-level leadership position, the Business Unit Director will influence, develop, and implement long-term strategies and key performance indicators. This role requires high levels of collaboration with internal customers as well as field-based peer departments.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement the national sales and business strategy for the Transfusion Business Unit, ensuring alignment with Werfen’s overall corporate objectives and long-term growth strategy.

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing national sales organization to expand Werfen’s Transfusion customer base and drive market share growth across blood banks, donor testing centers, and hospital transfusion laboratories.

  • Recruit, train, and manage People Leaders and field sales teams to achieve sales targets, ensure effective territory coverage, and promote consistent execution of strategic initiatives.

  • Collaborate closely with Corporate Accounts and the Contracts Department to develop, negotiate, and manage long-term partnerships with key health systems, Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs), and blood collection organizations.

  • Partner with Marketing and Global Business Unit teams to execute product launches, align messaging, and optimize go-to-market strategies for Werfen’s Transfusion portfolio.

  • Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for sales performance, customer engagement, and operational efficiency, holding the team accountable for consistent execution and results.

  • Provide leadership in forecasting, budgeting, and expense management, ensuring alignment with national goals and adherence to Werfen financial and compliance policies.

  • Gather and communicate field-level market intelligence, competitive insights, and customer feedback to inform product strategy, pricing, and long-term planning.

  • Ensure full compliance with Werfen policies, quality standards, and industry regulations while fostering a culture of integrity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Represent Werfen’s Transfusion business externally at trade shows, professional associations, and key industry forums to strengthen brand presence and relationships.


Networking / Key Relationships:

The Director of Sales, Business Unit - Transfusion will interface regularly with key internal and external stakeholders, including:

  • Commercial Operations – to align field sales execution with strategic objectives and resource planning.

  • Client Services – to ensure customer satisfaction, timely issue resolution, and service excellence.

  • Finance – for accurate forecasting, budgeting, and performance tracking.

  • Quality & Regulatory Affairs – to ensure compliance across all Transfusion products and programs.

  • Operations & Supply Chain – to coordinate product availability and order fulfillment.

  • R&D and Technology Centers – to support product innovation and sustainment of the Transfusion portfolio.

  • Strategic Business Units (Marketing & Worldwide Service) – for global alignment, product lifecycle management, and field service strategy.

  • Information Technology – to enhance CRM systems, analytics, and reporting capabilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering or Biomedical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience required. Master's Degree Preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in sales management capacity required.

Management has the discretion of substituting relevant work experience for a degree and/or making exceptions to the years of experience requirement.

Travel Requirements:
