Job Summary

 

The Manufacturing Technical Support (MTS) Instrument Service Engineer is responsible for a variety of tasks associated with installations, maintenance, calibrations repairs, and other site duties associated with Werfen capital equipment (Neo IRIS, Echo Lumena, Replicant A and Replicant B) to ensure instrument Uptime in MTS. Maintaining uptime of these instrument platforms is critical to MTS efficiency and productivity for the investigation and troubleshooting of commercial products, material and component qualifications, improvement of existing products and processes, Root Cause Investigations and Projects in collaboration with R&D associated with new reagents and components.


This role oversees all automated testing platforms that utilize Werfen Commercial product for Werfen developed assays in the MTS testing laboratory. Routine support for other laboratories at the Werfen Transfusion Technology Center is not part of this role’s scope.


The Manufacturing Technical Support (MTS) Instrument Service Engineer will be required to maintain training compliance according to SOP’s for each of the unique platforms. The ability to service each platform and maintain uptime is the primary job responsibility.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Perform multiple tasks associated with corrective maintenance, installations, and calibration of equipment within the MTS laboratory.
  • Maintain all instrumentation at or above levels set forth by the manufacturer's specifications 100% of the time by providing a high level of responsiveness and escalation of instrument issues to the MTS laboratory Supervisor and/or MTS Director.
  • Maintain a spare parts inventory for routine Preventative Maintenance with an accuracy of greater than 95% to resolve any issues within MTS instruments.
  • Document accurate records of all duties performed and expenses incurred using appropriate documentation forms including RMA’s for parts shipments.
  • Understand and become proficient in Automated blood banking techniques in support of testing within the MTS Testing Laboratory when Instrument Uptime is 100% .
  • Ability to assemble test samples and execute testing under the direction of the MTS laboratory Supervisor and/or Director when Instrument Uptime is 100% and/or Critical Investigations for Commercial release are required.
  • Ensures deadlines are met for installation of new equipment, PM’s and upgrades for equipment, and turnaround of repaired equipment.
  • Training of other staff members as needed.
  • Stay current on knowledge of products, services, procedures, policies, systems, and company organization as it relates to job requirements by completing regular training assignments.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: minimum 2 years of prior Engineering Experience with automation is highly desirable.

Management has the discretion of substituting relevant work experience for a degree and/or making exceptions to the years of experience requirement.

 

Skills & Capabilities:

  • Proficient with with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and other desktop functions at an intermediate level
  • Understanding of the products and science behind the techniques being used in the automated testing platforms.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Werfen’s automated instrument platforms, prior experience with the Werfen instrument platforms is required.
  • An appropriate understanding and knowledge of the role of quality and activities necessary to remain compliant with current regulatory standards during repair, maintenance of instruments and testing execution.
  • Compliant with all safety requirements. Understands and comply with OSHA regulations with respect to chemical hazards, blood borne pathogens, safety, etc.
  • Strong engineering and critical thinking skills.
  • Organizational, communication and administrative skills.
  • Must be extremely detailed oriented and work well in a team environment.
  • Must be capable of adapting to change and multitasking while working in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must be available to work irregular hours as necessary to support the MTS testing laboratory. Work shifts may vary according to department projects and some weekend work may be required to accommodate testing schedules.
