Werfen’s Assay Development Internship Program is a 10-week, full-time, paid assignment that takes place over the course of the summer. Some internship assignments may be shortened or extended based on the company and/or the student’s needs.  

 

The Internship program has been designed to allow students to learn through hands on experience providing an opportunity to blend textbook knowledge with practical experience. Throughout the 10-week program, students will have the opportunity to work cross functionally with other departments to maximize their opportunity to learn as much as possible. 

 

The pay range for this position is currently $24-$28 an hour. Individual compensation is based on the candidate’s qualifications for the position, including experience, skills, knowledge, education, certifications, internal equity, budget, and/or other business and organizational needs.

 

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Perform experiments in development of new or improved Werfen products in R&D laboratory under the supervision of R&D Assay Development staff, using automated Werfen instruments, reagent products with human whole blood and plasma. 
  • Able to work with data spreadsheets performing basic statistical analysis of output test data. 
  • Responsible to keep and maintain lab notebook as trained and follow good laboratory practice particularly with regard to handling of bloodborne pathogens.The Intern will be involved in the day-to-day activities of the team included aiding other departments as they relate to department projects. We expect the intern to gain an in-depth knowledge of the product and its associated processes, particularly the process activities in-which they will be directly involved. The intern will have opportunities to assist in nearly all aspects of the workflow.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position: 

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or graduate degree program with a minimum GPA of 3.2. Preferably in a Bioengineering or Life Sciences major. 
  • Able to utilize general laboratory equipment, including spectrophotometer, centrifuge, & analytical balance, and perform calculations and complete chemical preparations. 
  • Able to follow directions with moderate supervision and work in group-focused environment.   
  • Good communication skills required 
  • Proficiency in computer skills a must, including Word & Excel.  
  • Anxious to learn, highly motivated, and a desire to obtain professional experience in IVD Industry. 
  • Requires confidence in using Microsoft Word and Excel tools.
