Position Summary:

 

Provides leadership to the Import-Export Team in the achievement of quality, safety and cost goals.  Accountable to prepare all required documentation to expedite import clearance and export shipments via truck, air or courier and ocean.  Reserves space of shipments through the consignee’s freight forwarder with airline, vessel or trucking companies.  Coordinate with Warehouse and Customer Service to efficiently meet customer shipment deadlines, monitor customer shipments to ensure timely delivery.  Monitors the import advices from Affiliates and overseas vendors, ensuring the proper documentation is provided to custom brokers. Looking for candidates who have their Customs Brokers License. 

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Supports Import-Export Manager in assigning duties and monitoring performance of other employees.
  • Ensures employees are properly trained and audited for quality of work; Complete re-training as necessary
  • Responds to problems that arise in the area, investigate and develop/implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinates with other in-house service departments
  • Coordinates with outside agencies, ile. Forwarders, airlines, vessel, common carriers and customers.
  • Prepares necessary export documentation including commercial invoices, pro-forma invoices, bill of lading, shipper’s export declaration, dangerous goods declarations, certificate of origins and certificate of analysis.
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer relations skills, evaluating needs before taking action, Shows concern for the customer and informs of the expected action to be taken.  Maintains a positive and professional attitude.
  • Prepares and updates Job Aids on daily tasks for the team and once the document is approved from management, shares it with colleagues ensuring the group is properly trained.  Provide advice to Export Specialists and helps to set priorities with other team members whenever it is needed.
  • Escalate critical situations to Management and communicate with other departments or customers to offer a quick resolution of the case.
  • Identify root causes of problems and weak situation, eventually proposing improvement to Management.
  • Strictly work with Buyers, Planners and Warehouse Teams to ensure import shipments are delivered in timely manner and decide priority in import clearance whenever it is the case.
  • Support Import-Export Manager with other projects and tasks as assigned.

Skills & Capabilities:

  • The ideal candidate for this position will exhibit the following skills and capabilities:
  • Communication skills, informing, priority setting, problem solving
  • Proficiency with computer, including spreadsheets, database and word processing programs.  SAP preferred.
  • Courtesy and tact to ensure effective and efficient solutions
  • Proficient with specialized import/export documentation, including hazardous materials, transportation and US Export regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of the CBP & Harmonized Tariff Regulations and Customs entry import process & procedures

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience Required for the Position:

 

Education:

  • College degree in business related field preferred or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of related experience working in both import and export environment
  • Prior experience in supervisor position or team leader a plus.
  • Knowledge of Spanish a plus.
