Overview

Job Summary


The Production Chemist I supports the production of licensed and unlicensed reagents, and other liquid products for the Cell Culture department. Working under the guidance of the Manufacturing Manager, Supervisor, and/or Lead Technician, this role performs daily manufacturing operations with an emphasis on cell culture techniques, process compliance, and product quality.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Follows applicable laboratory SOPs, GMP regulations, and applicable laboratory OSHA regulations with respect to chemical hazards, blood-borne pathogens, etc.
  • Performs production of proteins using sterile technique in a biosafety cabinet.
  • Performs microscopic exams and automated cell counts.
  • Performs maintenance of the lab including recording temperatures, cleaning, equipment maintenance, and disposal of contaminated waste.
  • Entry of time, materials, creation of production orders into ERP systems.
  • Follow and promote all safety measures required by Werfen.
  • Aids in troubleshooting problems which occur in the production flow.
  • Maintains departmental inventory.
  • Understands scientific concepts related to products manufactured.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Networking/Key relationships

 

Works closely with other manufacturing (Cell Culture) members, quality control, quality assurance, Manufacturing, and Packaging department. Collaborate with other key cross-functional areas as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in cGMP, ISO and/or FDA compliance is a plus
  • Experience in cell culture techniques is a plus

Management has the discretion of substituting relevant work experience for a degree and/or making exceptions to the years of experience requirement.

 

Skills & Capabilities:

  • Ability to work well in a group setting as well as independenty.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret a variety of technical instructions.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to indentify instrument malfunctions and perform equipment troubleshooting.
  • Ablity to work with Microsoft Office.

Minimal, if any travel required.
